The Pillars of

Movement Wellness

Restorative

Whole body healing and the regaining of lost physical abilities can be fostered through a series of loaded mobility, circular weight training, calisthenics, and meditative/martial movement. In modern times, the body is constantly placed in tension-based and stress-induced positions. It is necessary to combat ailments brought on by daily negative indications, and to bring the body back to balance.

Tactical/Martial

Not only can martial arts/movement be thought of for self-protection–it is also a well-chronicled and practiced method for mind-body-spirit connection and awareness. Martial training also provides a catalyst for neuroplasticity–a process that must be continuously played on as we age to maintain cognitive abilities. Through martial training, one will develop skills in precision, proprioception, visual and physical sensitivity, agility, the use of tools and environment to one’s advantage against external aggression, proper ranging and timing within the combat flow, and technical sparring.

Pedagogy

The theory and application of a system or methodology in relation to movement allows us to validate and ensure effectiveness and adaptability. Activities such as martial arts, yoga, dance, sports, and games provides a dynamic setting for exploring and testing various movement principles. Through “play”, we can explore movement, recover lost ranges of motion in a safe environment, and apply acquired skills.
